"Girl was drunk, mistreated, and struck Ashwajit," the family of a Maharashtra bureaucrat claims

The family of Ashwajit Gaikwad, who stands accused of deliberately running over his girlfriend, has issued a comprehensive statement countering the allegations made by the woman, Priya Singh. Gaikwad, the son of a high-ranking bureaucrat in Maharashtra, has been implicated in the incident in Thane. In response, Gaikwad's family vehemently refuted all charges, including the accusation of attempting murder, made by Priya Singh.

According to Gaikwad's family, the incident occurred during a gathering with family and friends in Thane, where Gaikwad's wife and children were also present. They disputed the timeline presented by Singh, stating that she began texting Ashwajit around 1:30 am or 2 am, wanting to meet him at that late hour. The family asserted that Singh, under the influence of intoxication, forcefully entered the party at the Courtyard Hotel where Gaikwad was with his friends and family.

Gaikwad's family claimed that Singh's aggressive behavior stemmed from her dissatisfaction with Gaikwad not responding to her calls and texts earlier in the night. The family suggested a possible past connection between the two but maintained that Gaikwad regarded Singh as a friend. They also alleged that Gaikwad had financially supported Singh on multiple occasions, even if there was a previous romantic relationship.

Describing the sequence of events, Gaikwad's family explained that when Singh started physically assaulting Gaikwad and his friends, the family left the scene in Gaikwad's car, feeling embarrassed. Singh purportedly clung to the driver's car, and when the driver attempted to leave, she fell off and sustained injuries.

The family asserted that the driver promptly took Singh to a nearby hospital, fulfilling all necessary procedures. However, they claimed that Singh changed hospitals without informing them, and a local rival, taking advantage of the situation, intervened and implicated Gaikwad in an alleged family rivalry.

Gaikwad's family emphasized that CCTV footage obtained by the police indicated Gaikwad's absence from the frame when Singh fell from the car. They also highlighted disparities between Singh's account on her Instagram story and the information presented in the FIR, pointing out inconsistencies in blaming Gaikwad versus the driver for the incident.

Raising questions about the credibility of Singh's claims, Gaikwad's family questioned whether a toxicology test had been conducted on her. They expressed frustration with the presumption that Gaikwad was automatically at fault due to his familial connections and financial standing, asserting that he should not be held accountable solely based on these factors. The family challenged the veracity of Singh's allegations, particularly the claim that Gaikwad bit her, questioning whether such details were documented in hospital reports.

In contrast, Priya Singh asserted that she was unaware of Ashwajit Gaikwad's marital status and recounted a shocking confrontation when she discovered him with his wife. She described the ensuing fight and refuted Gaikwad's family's version of events.
