India requests that Pakistan extradite Hafiz Saeed, the architect of the 26/11 assault

On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi announced that the government had recently made a formal request to Pakistan seeking the extradition of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, to India. Bagchi emphasized that this appeal was specifically aimed at bringing Saeed to India to stand trial for multiple cases in the country.

Shortly after this announcement, Pakistan's foreign affairs ministry acknowledged the extradition request, citing it as a "so-called money laundering case."

Hafiz Saeed holds the status of one of India's most sought-after terrorists and has a $10 million bounty placed by the US for his suspected involvement in the devastating 26/11 Mumbai attacks. These attacks, carried out over four days starting on November 26, 2008, resulted in the loss of 166 lives and left 300 individuals injured.

Arindam Bagchi also highlighted that Hafiz Saeed is designated as a UN-proscribed terrorist, underscoring this in a briefing earlier today.

"We have forwarded a request supported by relevant documentation to the Government of Pakistan, seeking the extradition of Hafiz Saeed to India to face trial in a specific case," stated Bagchi.
