External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is slated to engage in discussions with Russia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, focusing on matters about economic engagement. In the realm of geopolitics and strategic alignment, Jaishankar expressed optimism about the trajectory of India-Russia ties as he embarked on a five-day visit to Moscow to confer with top Russian leaders, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Addressing the broader context of India-Russia relations, Jaishankar underscored the enduring strength of the ties, emphasizing that geopolitical considerations and strategic alignment would invariably maintain a positive trajectory. In the lead-up to his talks with Lavrov and other dignitaries, Jaishankar shared insights from his interactions with strategic experts, emphasizing the importance of rebalancing and the emergence of multipolarity.

Acknowledging the stable and resilient nature of the India-Russia partnership, Jaishankar highlighted the enduring spirit of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. While refraining from condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, India has consistently advocated for a diplomatic and dialogic resolution to the crisis.

During his visit, Jaishankar is anticipated to engage in a comprehensive dialogue with Lavrov, delving into a spectrum of bilateral, multilateral, and global issues. Additionally, a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Manturov is scheduled to delve into economic matters, further underlining the multifaceted nature of the Indo-Russian relationship. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi emphasized the stability of the partnership, emphasizing people-to-people and cultural ties, with the minister's agenda encompassing engagements not only in Moscow but also in St Petersburg.

The discussions between the Indian and Russian sides are expected to encompass various facets of bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on trade, energy, defense, and connectivity. Against the backdrop of heightened scrutiny in Western countries, India's substantial increase in the import of Russian crude oil is indicative of the continued resilience and pragmatism characterizing the bilateral partnership.
