Lalit Jha, who was allegedly the mastermind behind the security breach incident at Parliament on Wednesday, voluntarily surrendered to the Delhi Police on Thursday night.
The incident, which led to the arrest of four individuals, including a woman, on charges under the anti-terror law UAPA and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, transpired during the commemoration of the 2001 Parliament terror attack anniversary. Two men, identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, releasing yellow smoke canisters and shouting slogans during Zero Hour. MPs intervened, subdued the intruders, and handed them over to security, creating chaos in the Lok Sabha.
Simultaneously, a man and a woman, identified as Amol and Neelam, sprayed colored gas and shouted slogans outside Parliament premises, resulting in their arrest. Further police investigation revealed the involvement of two more individuals, Vickey and Lalit Jha. Vickey, who hosted the accused in his Gurugram residence before the incident, was detained. Lalit Jha, the alleged video-sharer of the attack on WhatsApp, was arrested after surrendering to the police.
Insiders suggest meticulous planning behind the entire operation. Following the security breach heightened security measures were implemented around Parliament, with thorough checks of credentials for everyone entering the complex.
