On Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs took a significant step by transferring the investigation of the murder case involving Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Gogamedi to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), an anti-terror probe agency. The decision to entrust the NIA with the inquiry was motivated by the apparent involvement of high-profile gangsters in the heinous crime, prompting the central probe agency to formally register a case in this regard.
The unfortunate incident transpired on December 5 when Sukhdev Gogamedi was fatally shot at his residence in Jaipur, Rajasthan, by three assailants. Following the murder, gangster Rohit Godara, associated with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for orchestrating Gogamedi's demise.
In a subsequent development, the two shooters, Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji, were apprehended on December 9 in Chandigarh. During interrogations, they disclosed that Godara had ordered the execution. Further investigations revealed that while evading capture, the shooters maintained communication with Godara's close associates, namely Virendra Chauhan and Danaram.
The root cause of the conflict between Godara and Gogamedi was identified as a dispute over the extortion of ransom from certain businessmen. Authorities suspect that this ongoing feud might have been the motive behind the orchestrated murder.
In connection with the case, a woman, accused of providing weapons and arranging accommodation, along with her husband, has been arrested. Additionally, one of the three shooters met his demise during the gunfire.
The chilling incident, captured on CCTV footage, depicted two individuals firing multiple shots at the Karni Sena chief, with a third person positioned at the door. Gogamedi was observed collapsing from gunshot injuries, and despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead at the hospital. Tragically, Gogamedi's security personnel, injured in the incident, succumbed to injuries later.
Previously, the Rajasthan Police had instituted a Special Investigation Team to handle the initial inquiry into the murder, reflecting the gravity and complexity of the case. The decision to involve the NIA underscores the broader implications and intricate dynamics surrounding the murder of Sukhdev Gogamedi.
