As the imminent arrival of the New Year approaches, Bengaluru is proactively implementing comprehensive security measures, demonstrating a commitment to the well-being of both residents and visitors. Authorities in the city have unveiled a series of stringent protocols aimed at ensuring a secure environment, encompassing a meticulous focus on preventing drink-driving, enforcing traffic regulations, and bolstering security measures on the eve of December 31.
The city's police department has strategically positioned 48 checkpoints at various locations, strategically placed to enhance vigilance and monitor activities during the New Year's Eve festivities. Additionally, in a concerted effort to streamline traffic and fortify safety, pivotal zones within the city, such as MG Road, Residency Road, and Church Street, will be declared vehicle-free starting from 8:00 pm on the designated date. Moreover, all flyovers across the city will undergo temporary closure, with restrictions in effect from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am.
In a forward-thinking move, the authorities have instituted a designated 'Women Safety Island' within the city limits, providing a secure haven for women during the revelries of New Year's Eve. Recognizing the importance of crowd management, a uniform curfew time of 1:00 am has been mandated for all New Year's Eve gatherings, spanning hotels, clubs, and pubs across the city.
The scale of security deployment is substantial, with a considerable force comprising 5200 constables, 1800 head constables, 600 Assistant Sub Inspectors, 600 Sub Inspectors, 160 Inspectors, 45 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 1 Joint Commissioner of Police, and 2 Additional Commissioners of Police poised to be strategically stationed at various locations throughout the city.
Concurrently, establishments hosting New Year's Eve events, including hotels, clubs, and pubs, have been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining detailed records of their patrons, capturing essential information such as names, ages, and contact numbers, aligning with the broader security measures implemented by the city's authorities.
