Telangana Governor: The Tamil Nadu administration handled the flood issue badly

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, following her visit to the flood-affected areas in Tamil Nadu on Monday, expressed criticism towards the DMK government in the state, attributing their handling of the situation to negligence.

According to statements quoted by news agency ANI, Governor Soundararajan remarked, "The state government should have taken proper precautionary measures. They have handled this situation very badly. The state government has failed to deal with the flood situation. When the people are reeling under the effects of flood, the CM is holding a program with the people."

The devastation caused by incessant rain in four districts—Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli—of Tamil Nadu resulted in significant damage, with at least 31 casualties reported in rain-related incidents. This followed the impact of Cyclone Michaung, which hit India's southeastern coast, leading to widespread destruction.

Notably, Kalyanapattinum in Thoothukudi district witnessed an unprecedented 950 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, surpassing the region's annual average.

In response to the flooding in Chennai caused by Cyclone Michaung, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the initiation of the first urban flood mitigation project, valued at Rs 562.20 crore.
