UK girl dies from a blood clot after using contraceptive tablets for menstrual pain

Layla Khan, a 16-year-old girl from the UK, tragically passed away from a blood clot on her brain approximately three weeks after initiating oral contraceptive pills to alleviate her period pain, as reported by the Metro.

According to her family, Layla was encouraged by friends to take a contraceptive pill for menstrual pain relief. She commenced the birth control pills on November 25, experiencing headaches by December 5, and eventually, she began vomiting by the end of the week.

Concerned about Layla's condition, her family contacted the 111 NHS helpline, but they were reassured that there were no alarming signs, and a suggestion was made to bring her in for a check-up the following morning.

Jenna Braithwaite, Layla's aunt, revealed that the doctors prescribed anti-sickness tablets, believing it was a stomach bug. The family was advised to seek hospital care if the vomiting persisted. However, Layla, experiencing excruciating pain, collapsed in the bathroom, conveying that the pain was widespread.

In a distressing turn of events, Jenna and Layla's mother had to transport her to the hospital. Layla's responsiveness declined during the journey. Hospital examinations revealed a blood clot in Layla's brain, leading to her urgent transfer to a hospital in Hull, where she underwent a critical operation.

Tragically, Layla was declared brain-dead the following day. She had recently begun college and was three months into her course. The family is devastated by the sudden loss of this young life.
