To enhance the convenience of tourists arriving in the state for New Year celebrations, the Uttarakhand government has declared that all eateries within the state are now permitted to operate 24x7. A notification issued by Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram emphasized that this decision has been taken in light of the increased influx of tourists in anticipation of the New Year, and the continuous operation of eateries aims to cater to their convenience.
Furthermore, the state government has granted approval for individuals employed in these establishments to work during both day and night shifts, subject to specific conditions. This move aligns with the ongoing festive atmosphere, facilitating seamless access to dining options for the visiting tourists.
Across the nation, individuals have been converging on northern states to partake in Christmas and New Year celebrations. Notably, Himachal Pradesh's Shimla and Manali experienced substantial traffic congestion on Christmas Eve, with hotel occupancy in these areas reportedly ranging between 80 and 90 percent.
Addressing the surge in tourist activity, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Tuesday that if law enforcement encounters inebriated tourists, they will be transported to their respective hotels instead of being sent to jail. He further disclosed that the state witnessed over 30,000 visitors, prompting the implementation of special measures by the government to ensure their well-being and satisfaction during the festive season.
