The government orders online media outlets to stop running advertisements for phony loan apps

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has underscored the government's directive to social media and online platforms, urging them to refrain from featuring advertisements for illegal loan and betting applications. The Minister, while addressing the issue, has specifically mentioned a targeted crackdown on the advertising of deceptive loan applications that have become prevalent across various digital platforms.

According to Chandrasekhar, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has made it explicitly clear through a recent advisory that online portals are prohibited from displaying advertisements promoting fraudulent loan applications. The rationale behind this directive is to prevent the misleading and exploitation of individuals who use the internet, especially vulnerable users who may fall prey to such deceptive practices.

The Minister of State for Electronics and IT has highlighted the dynamic nature of jurisprudence and the evolving approach of the government when it comes to ensuring a secure and trustworthy environment on the Internet. He emphasized that IT rules in place clearly outline 11 categories of prohibited content.

This regulatory framework not only sets guidelines for the digital space but also underscores the commitment of the government to regulate and curb misleading practices online. The move signifies a proactive stance to protect users from potential fraud and exploitation by unscrupulous elements operating through online platforms.
