A distressing incident unfolded at a birthday celebration in Kanpur, where numerous women, hired for catering services, reportedly faced physical assault from a group of unruly men. These individuals allegedly coerced the women into engaging in explicit dancing, tearing their clothes, and recording indecent videos during the event held at a farmhouse on Wednesday night.
The details emerged when one of the affected women, accompanied by her husband, reported the incident to the police control room (112). However, instead of promptly addressing the complaint, the woman claimed that the police questioned the legitimacy of her marriage and demanded proof. It was only after the couple escalated the matter to the Police Commissioner's office that an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) initiated an investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a person named Monu Singh organized the birthday party in Kanpur's Panki area. Following the cake-cutting ceremony, Monu Singh and RK Yadav, along with other troublemakers, allegedly insisted that the women partake in dancing. When the women resisted, the accused surrounded them, forcibly disrobing them and engaging in inappropriate behavior.
The accused reportedly resorted to threats, asserting their political influence over the victims. Several videos capturing the disturbing incident circulated on social media, depicting the victims being surrounded and harassed by the culprits. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with allegations that influential figures, including a vehicle adorned with stickers claiming affiliation with a BJP legislator, were present at the party.
The ACP has assured a thorough investigation into the matter, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the evidence gathered. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
