On Tuesday, a tragic incident unfolded as Maoists unleashed gunfire upon security forces during an operation conducted in Tekalgudem village situated along the border of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur and Sukma districts, resulting in the loss of three jawans' lives and leaving 14 others wounded. The village, nestled amidst the border regions, became the unfortunate site of this hostile encounter.
The security forces had established a camp in the vicinity with the dual purpose of monitoring Naxal activities and contributing to the welfare of local communities. Comprising personnel from the CRPF's CoBRA, District Reserve Groups (DRGs), and Special Task Forces, the deployed forces were engaged in patrolling the Jonaguda-Aliguda area when they came under attack by Maoist insurgents.
Notably, the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the CRPF, renowned for its expertise in jungle warfare, was part of the contingent deployed in the area.
Amidst the ensuing exchange of gunfire, three jawans lost their lives, while 14 others sustained injuries. The Maoist assailants, subsequently, retreated into the dense forest cover following the retaliatory actions of the security forces.
Efforts are underway to transport the injured personnel to Raipur for medical treatment. According to reports from the PTI news agency, arrangements are being made to deploy helicopters for the swift evacuation of the wounded, underscoring the urgent need for medical attention in the wake of this distressing incident.
