After Claudine Gay resigned as president of Harvard, there is a conflict between plagiarism and racism

Claudine Gay, the recently resigned Harvard University president, is slated to make a return to the institution as a faculty member in the political science department, with an anticipated annual salary close to $900,000. This comes after her relatively short-lived tenure as president, marked by several controversies, including allegations of plagiarism and criticism for her response to campus antisemitism.

As she transitions back to a faculty role, her salary is projected to be comparable to, if not exceeding, what she earned as the dean of the Arts and Sciences department before assuming the presidency. While Gay will need to vacate the Harvard president's residence, Elmwood, part of her salary may also include a share of the presidential compensation, estimated at around $1 million, given her brief six-month term.

Despite her resignation, the circumstances surrounding Gay's departure remain the subject of discussions, encompassing issues such as plagiarism, her handling of antisemitism allegations, and contentions by her supporters that conservative backlash contributed to her exit, raising questions about her historic appointment as the first Black woman to lead Harvard.
