AIADMK MLA tells female civil-commission official: "Stand when I'm talking" | Captured on camera

A video that has gained widespread attention captured AIADMK MLA AK Selvaraj allegedly instructing a female civic official to stand up while he engaged in conversation with her. The incident unfolded as Selvaraj, representing Mettupalayam, visited the civic body office in Coimbatore on a Tuesday, accompanied by his supporters and staff. The purpose of the visit was to assess the implementation of various welfare schemes within his constituency.

Upon entering the office, Selvaraj raised questions about the absence of Panchayat Heads. In response, the woman civic official, Amudha, remained silent. In an apparent display of displeasure, Selvaraj urged her, saying, "Get up, first stand up. I'm an MLA. Why are the Chairman and Vice-Chairman inside this room? Don't behave indecently. They might have been chosen by ward councilors, but the whole of Mettupalayam voted for me."

The situation escalated, prompting Chairman Mehreeba to intervene and instruct Commissioner Amudha to sit down, emphasizing her position and role. "You don't have to stand if he asks. You are a Commissioner, sit down," she reassured Amudha, providing comfort in the tense situation.

The video capturing the behavior of AIADMK MLA Selvaraj and his supporters within the government office has now gone viral, drawing criticism for his demeanor towards the female employee. In response to the incident, Amudha, the civic official subjected to the MLA's directive, filed a police complaint with the Mettupalayam Police Station. The incident has sparked discussions on appropriate conduct, particularly concerning interactions between public officials and their constituents.
