An ex-Youth Congress secretary is accused of stealing Rs. 11 lakh before a Bengaluru court.

An FIR has been lodged in Bengaluru against Sandhya Pavitra Nagaraj, a former Youth Congress Secretary, on allegations of defrauding a woman, Roopa, of Rs 11.2 lakh. Roopa claimed that in 2021, Pavitra Nagaraj accepted the money under the pretense of arranging a government job for her brother.

Roopa further stated that when she requested the funds from the former Youth Congress Secretary, Pavitra Nagaraj handed her a counterfeit cheque. Subsequently, when Roopa failed to retrieve the amount, Pavitra Nagaraj suggested settling the matter through legal channels.

The Jayanagar Police have registered the case under Sections 34, 504, 406, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), relating to acts done in furtherance of common intention, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, criminal breach of trust, and cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, respectively.

Additionally, another individual named Chandu, hailing from Yadgiri, has accused Pavitra Nagaraj of swindling him out of Rs 20 lakh after promising him a government job at the MS Building in Bengaluru. Despite three years passing since the transaction, Nagaraj has neither refunded the amount nor fulfilled her promise, Chandu claimed.

In a distressing plea, Chandu, currently confined to his bed due to illness, sent a video message to Pavitra, urging her to return the funds as he is unable to cover his medical expenses.

According to police sources, Pavitra, alongside her associates Harish and Bhanuprakash, targeted job-seeking individuals via social media platforms. They would approach these individuals, extract substantial sums of money under the guise of securing government positions, and then abscond. The modus operandi involved gaining the trust of their targets by flaunting photographs of Pavitra alongside various Congress politicians.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Nalapad, the Karnataka Youth Congress President, clarified that Pavitra Nagaraj has been suspended from the party. Nalapad emphasized that she was removed from her position due to her lack of performance and misconduct. He cautioned the public against trusting individuals like Pavitra Nagaraj and advised against engaging in bribery or other malpractices to secure government jobs.
