The origins of the 'Beating Retreat' ceremony can be traced back to the early 1950s, credited to Major Roberts of the Indian Army, who conceived this unique display by the massed bands. This ceremonious event pays homage to a centuries-old military tradition, signifying the cessation of hostilities as troops retreat from the battlefield and return to camp at sunset, accompanied by the evocative strains of the Retreat. Flags are lowered, and colors and standards are cased, epitomizing the solemnity and valor of our armed forces.
