This development follows the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged land scam.
Champai Soren, known for his close ties to Hemant Soren and his family, currently serves as the representative of the Seraikella assembly constituency. Additionally, he holds ministerial portfolios encompassing Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Caste, and Backward Class Welfare, along with serving as the Vice-President of JMM.
In a show of solidarity, legislators from the JMM and its coalition allies converged at the Governor's residence to endorse Champai Soren as the prospective Chief Minister. Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta conveyed this decision, affirming their collective support for Champai Soren's leadership.
A glimpse into Champai Soren's background reveals a trajectory marked by active engagement in social service advocacy. Born into an Adivasi family in Jamshedpur on January 1, 1961, he emerged as a prominent figure in the Jharkhand movement, earning the moniker 'Jharkhand Tiger' for his fervent advocacy. His political journey includes stints as a Cabinet Minister in the Arjun Munda-led BJP government in 2010, followed by service in the Hemant Soren Cabinet, where he oversaw key portfolios such as Food, Civil Supplies, and Transport.
With Hemant Soren's re-election as Chief Minister in 2019, Champai Soren resumed ministerial duties, focusing on areas vital to the welfare of marginalized communities, including Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Backward Classes Welfare.
