Congress asks, Why isn't there more bulldozer action in the IIT-BHU student gang rape case

The Congress party has vehemently accused the BJP of intentionally shielding the three individuals accused in the heinous gang rape of an IIT-BHU student. Launching a fierce critique against the BJP, the Varanasi Congress leaders have questioned the absence of decisive action, specifically bulldozer action, against the accused individuals.

Taking their protest to the streets on Tuesday, Congress leaders demanded stringent measures against the accused, leading to clashes between party workers and the police. The Congress workers have leveled serious allegations, contending that the BJP is actively engaged in protecting the accused individuals involved in this distressing case.

Raghvendra Chaubey, a prominent Congress leader, questioned the Yogi government's commitment to combating harassment against women, sarcastically asking why "Yamraj" was not present at the crossroads for 60 days. He emphasized the demand for bulldozer action to be taken against the homes of the accused, underscoring the party's dissatisfaction with the current government.

Another Congress worker, Vaibhav Tripathi, asserted that the government is shielding the rapists. He highlighted a video made of the woman two months ago and claimed that all three accused are members of the BJP’s IT cell in Varanasi. Despite the release of CCTV footage, the BJP allegedly promoted its IT cell officer. The Congress has taken its protest to the Prime Minister's Office, condemning individuals involved in such reprehensible actions.

Regarding the case itself, the incident occurred on the night of November 1, prompting protests by hundreds of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students who demanded a ban on the entry of outsiders on campus. According to the complainant, the woman was accosted by three men on a motorcycle while she was outside her hostel with a friend. The men forcibly took her to a secluded area, gagged her, and allegedly stripped her, making a video and taking photos. The police registered an FIR under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act at the Lanka police station. Subsequently, the charge of gang rape was added to the FIR.

Two months after the incident, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The Congress, however, remains steadfast in its accusation that the BJP is intentionally shielding the accused, leading to public protests and clashes between party workers and law enforcement.
