Following an attack on an investigation agency team, West Bengal Police files three cases


On Saturday, the West Bengal police took the initiative to register three separate First Information Reports (FIRs) about the assault on Enforcement Directorate officials that transpired on Friday, January 5, in the state's Sandeshkhali area. In response to the attack, the police have also commenced an investigation to identify the individuals involved in the mob assault on the ED team.

According to police sources, the first FIR has been filed based on a complaint submitted by the probe agency officials. The complaint details the incident in which an unruly mob attacked the ED team in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, while they were en route to conduct raids related to an alleged ration distribution scam. The ED team was under the escort of central paramilitary forces during this operation.

The second FIR has been registered based on complaints from locals, who alleged that the ED officials created a disturbance in the area.

Ongoing investigations are being conducted to delve further into the details of the case.

BACKGROUND OF THE CASE
The unfortunate incident unfolded on January 5 when a mob attacked members of the Enforcement Directorate in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. The ED officials, accompanied by paramilitary forces, had ventured to conduct raids in connection with an alleged ration distribution scam in North 24 Parganas district. The mob not only assaulted the officials but also vandalized government officials' vehicles during the confrontation.
