According to a senior police official on Monday, a woman serving as a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Shahpura, located in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district, was purportedly murdered by her husband. Allegedly, the motive behind this tragic act was her refusal to designate him as the nominee in various records on service, insurance, and banking matters. Superintendent of Police Akhil Patel provided details, stating that SDM Nisha Napit, aged 51, entered into matrimony with Manish Sharma, aged 45, whom she met via social media in 2020. Their marital discord stemmed from Sharma's insistence on being named as the nominee in the aforementioned records, a request which Napit declined to fulfill.
The grim incident unfolded when Sharma purportedly asphyxiated Napit with a pillow on Sunday. Subsequently, he reportedly lingered near the deceased's body for approximately six hours before transporting it to a nearby community health center. However, alert medical personnel raised the alarm, leading to police intervention, as recounted by SP Patel.
Further details emerged indicating that Sharma had allegedly laundered the blood-stained garments and pillow in a washing machine. Patel affirmed that following a thorough investigation and collection of evidence from the scene, Sharma was interrogated and apprehended. He now faces charges including murder, dowry-related death, tampering with evidence, and other associated offenses.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mukesh Shrivastava commended the investigative team's swift resolution of the case within 24 hours and announced a reward of Rs 20,000. Police sources also revealed that the accused reportedly worked as a property dealer.
