For the 2024 National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp, a noteworthy development is the participation of a band comprising 45 girls from the Northeast region, marking the first occurrence of such inclusion. Aged between 13 and 15, these girls are not only presenting the vibrant cultural heritage of the North East but are also emphasizing the widespread presence of the NCC throughout the country.

NCC Director-General Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, during a media briefing on Wednesday, shared that a total of 2,274 cadets, with a record 907 girls participating, are partaking in the month-long camp, hailing from diverse regions, including 122 from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and 177 from the North East. Additionally, cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries are joining through the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).

Highlighting the objectives of the Republic Day Camp, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh stated that it aims to familiarize cadets with the rich traditions of the nation, reinforce their values, encourage national integration, and foster unity in diversity through cultural exchange programs.

Throughout the camp, various dignitaries, including the Vice President, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs, are expected to participate.

Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh also shed light on the significant activities of the NCC in 2023, encompassing 39 Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps, Megacyclothon, Nari Vandhan Run, commendable performances in sporting events, mountaineering expeditions, and involvement in G20 events.

Emphasizing the refined training philosophy, he articulated, "The focus is on personality development, instilling leadership traits, and enhancing the soft skills of cadets to equip them for their future requirements. The objective is to transform them into better citizens and instill the spirit of the nation first."
