Indian teenager detained in Canada for the death of another Indian teenager

In Canada, an individual of Indian descent, identified as Preetpaul Singh, has been apprehended for his involvement in the murder of another Indian-origin teenager in Brampton. The victim, 18-year-old Nishan Thind, tragically lost his life in the incident, while a 16-year-old suspect, believed to be the perpetrator of the fatal shooting, remains at large.

Authorities from the Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau have taken swift action in response to the untimely demise of Nishan Thind, which occurred on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, when he was admitted to a local hospital following a fatal gunshot wound.

Following intensive investigations, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a Brampton residence on January 9, 2024, leading to the arrest of 18-year-old Preetpaul Singh on charges of Accessory After the Fact to Commit an Indictable Offence. Singh, also of Indian origin, is currently in police custody and is slated to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Meanwhile, the individual suspected of directly perpetrating the shooting remains unidentified due to the protections afforded by the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). A Canada-wide warrant for manslaughter has been issued for this 16-year-old boy from Brampton.

Efforts by law enforcement to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of Nishan Thind are ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for any pertinent information or video footage that may aid in their investigation.

"Our investigation into this tragedy remains active," emphasized a spokesperson from the Peel Police, urging anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in shedding light on the events leading up to Thind's unfortunate demise.
