"Indians are consulted on all major global issues": S. Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted on Saturday that India is now considered a pivotal player on the global stage, and significant global decisions are made in consultation with the country.

Addressing an event in Nagpur, Jaishankar highlighted the evolution in the world's perception of India, stating that no major global issue is decided without some level of consultation with New Delhi. He emphasized the changing dynamics, stating, "We have changed, and the world’s view of us has changed."

Expanding on India's role in various international groupings such as QUAD and BRICS, Jaishankar noted that India's independence necessitates the ability to manage its interests by engaging with diverse entities.

Responding to a query about diplomatic relations with China, Jaishankar acknowledged that normalization couldn't be achieved until the border issue is resolved. He communicated to his Chinese counterpart that the resolution of the border dispute is crucial for restoring normalcy in other aspects of the bilateral relationship.

"We have explained to my Chinese counterpart that unless you find a solution to the border dispute and till forces remain face-to-face there, you can't expect the rest of the relations will carry on in a normal manner. It is impossible," he emphasized.

Jaishankar conveyed that efforts were underway to normalize relations with China, acknowledging that diplomatic stand-offs often take time to be resolved.

During the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra in Kerala on January 6, Jaishankar previously highlighted the shift in global conversations towards India. He shared that during his diplomatic engagements worldwide, there is a growing interest in understanding the changes that have occurred in India over the past decade.

"The rest of the world is actually today talking about us. They are asking today how it is that you can do. Because it was the same India 10, 20 or 30 years ago. What has changed in India? And I tell them that what has changed in India is the vision," he remarked.
