Police in the United States are currently investigating the deaths of an affluent Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter, who were discovered lifeless in their expansive $5 million residence in Massachusetts, according to a media report.
Rakesh Kamal, 57, and his wife, Teena, 54, along with their 18-year-old daughter, Ariana, were found deceased in their mansion that boasts 11 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms on Thursday.
Norfolk District Attorney (DA) Michael Morrissey has labeled the incident as a “domestic violence situation” since a firearm was discovered near Rakesh's body.
The ongoing investigation into the fatalities of the three family members was reported by NBC Boston on Saturday.
The report indicates that the medical examiner’s office is still scrutinizing the cause and manner of the deaths.
Teena and Rakesh previously operated a now-dissolved education systems firm named EduNova. Established in 2016, the company was dissolved in December 2021, as per state records.
Ariana, their daughter, was remembered by the educational institutions she attended as a bright and kind young woman with a promising future. She graduated from Milton Academy during the past summer, and the prestigious school expressed deep sorrow at her demise, describing Ariana as "a sweet, smart, kind young woman who was just beginning to realize her full potential."
Ariana, a first-year student at Middlebury College, a private liberal arts school in Vermont with an annual cost of $64,800, was referred to by one of her professors as "a brilliant student" actively involved in class discussions and passionate about her pursuits. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was studying neuroscience and was also a cherished member of the college choir.
The grim discovery of the family's bodies occurred when a relative, alarmed by not hearing from them for a day or two, visited to check on them, as mentioned by the district attorney.
The family members found dead were the sole occupants of the mansion at the time of the incident, the DA noted, adding that the area, considered one of the wealthiest in the state, was a "nice neighborhood, a safe community."
Financial challenges seemed to have plagued the couple in recent years, as per online records. Their opulent mansion, valued at around $5.45 million, went into foreclosure a year ago and was subsequently sold for $3 million, according to the New York Post.
Dover, the location of the incident, is approximately 32 kilometers southwest of downtown Boston, the capital of Massachusetts.
