The elder sister of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Rajeshwariben Shah, passed away during her treatment at a Mumbai hospital on Monday, as reported by a BJP office-bearer. Amit Shah, representing the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, has opted to cancel all his scheduled engagements in Gujarat in light of this unfortunate event.
Providing details, the office-bearer mentioned that Rajeshwariben, aged in her mid-60s, had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her condition in the early hours of Monday. Expressing deep sorrow at the demise of his sister, Shah has chosen to withdraw from all planned activities for the day.
The mortal remains of Rajeshwariben Shah have been brought to her residence in Gujarat this morning, and the last rites are scheduled to take place at the Thaltej crematorium later in the afternoon, the office-bearer informed. Notably, Shah had been in Ahmedabad since Sunday to partake in Makar Sankranti celebrations with BJP supporters.
On the day of the unfortunate incident, Monday, Shah had been slated to participate in two events in the Banaskantha and Gandhinagar districts. In Banaskantha, he, as the head of the Cooperation portfolio, was set to inaugurate various projects of Banas Dairy at Deodar village. Additionally, in the afternoon, his schedule included the inauguration of several developmental projects at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar. However, in light of the tragic loss within his family, Shah made the conscientious decision to cancel all these previously planned commitments, prioritizing the grieving process for his departed sister.
