In a recent development, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma took the initiative on Friday to allocate portfolios to the newly appointed ministers in his cabinet. Chief Minister Sharma retained control over eight departments, including significant areas such as home, excise, and the anti-corruption bureau.
The crucial finance portfolio was entrusted to Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, who, in addition to this responsibility, will oversee five other departments, namely tourism, art and culture, public works, and women and child development. Another Deputy Chief Minister, Prem Chand Bairwa, has been assigned the domains of technical education, higher education, and transport.
Among the other cabinet ministers, Kirodi Lal Meena was entrusted with the agriculture and rural development departments, Gajendra Singh Khimsar with medical and health, Rajyvardhan Rathore with industries, IT, and communication, and Madan Dilawar with school education.
This comprehensive allocation of portfolios covered all 22 ministers who were sworn in on December 30, 2023. Before this, Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra approved the list of portfolios for the ministers who had recently been inducted into Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's ministry.
In a swearing-in ceremony held last week at the Raj Bhavan in Jaipur, 22 ministers, including 12 cabinet ministers, took their oaths in the presence of Governor Kalraj Mishra. Notably, 17 out of the 22 ministers were taking office for the first time.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma assumed office on December 15, 2023, with Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa joining him in leading the state government. The recent portfolio allocation signifies a strategic distribution of responsibilities among the cabinet members, aiming to effectively govern and address various sectors of importance in Rajasthan.
