Lakshadweep's Administrator, Praful Patel, highlighted on Monday that the Union Territory is not only capturing attention within India but is also gaining global recognition following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit.
Patel further announced ongoing initiatives in Lakshadweep aimed at promoting tourism, which encompasses the construction of additional accommodation facilities and the development of a substantial airport.
Prime Minister Modi, during his visit to the islands on January 2, underscored the untapped potential of Lakshadweep, characterizing it as a region "full of many possibilities." The visit, featuring stunning images showcasing the islands' natural beauty, has ignited international interest in the destination.
Expressing enthusiasm about the surge in global inquiries from potential visitors, Patel stated that this development would significantly boost the territory's economy and create opportunities for the local population, emphasizing the positive impact on the community.
The administration is actively engaged in enhancing tourism infrastructure to leverage the immense possibilities offered by Lakshadweep's natural beauty. Patel mentioned, "The natural beauty of Lakshadweep carries immense possibilities for the development of the tourism sector," as reported by news agency PTI.
As part of these efforts, plans are underway to introduce 1,000 new accommodations, with construction already in progress for 225 rooms. Additionally, water villas in Suheli and Kadmat are in the developmental phase.
Regarding transportation infrastructure, Patel noted, "At the moment there is a small airport. Looking at this, the prime minister has directed us to work towards developing a proper airport," indicating that proposals have been submitted to the Union government for the construction of a larger airport.
