On Saturday, a five-story building situated along National Highway 205 in Ghandal village near Shimla collapsed, resulting in the disruption of traffic movement due to damage to the road leading to a government college.
The collapse occurred at approximately 12 pm and was preceded by the development of cracks on the road adjacent to the building. These cracks emerged following excavation work in Dhami 16 Mile. A video capturing the moment of the building's collapse illustrated the severity of the incident.
Of particular concern was the proximity of the collapsed structure to the Degree College in Dhami, which itself had experienced structural issues with the development of cracks. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, as the students from a law college residing in the affected building had been evacuated a week before averting potential harm.
Additionally, the building's electric connections were promptly disconnected, as reported by the news agency PTI. The collaborative efforts to ensure the safety of the building's occupants, coupled with the timely disconnection of electric utilities, underscored the preventive measures taken to mitigate the impact of the collapse.
