Dr. Sandeep Singh, holding a Ph.D. and four master's degrees, is presently engaged in selling vegetables in Punjab as a means to sustain himself. In an interview with India Today TV, he revealed that he had taught at Punjabi University in Patiala for more than a decade but had to resign due to financial challenges.
Having served at Punjabi University for five years under a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and seven years as a guest faculty, Sandeep Singh decided to leave his teaching position in June of the current year due to the difficulties he and his family faced in making ends meet with the meager salary provided by the university.
Sandeep Singh expressed that the university's salary was not only insufficient but also often delayed. He emphasized his adherence to Guru Nanak Dev's teachings, stating that he refuses to beg and is committed to continuing his work.
Presently, Dr. Sandeep Singh operates a vegetable cart, creatively labeling himself as the 'PhD Sabzi Wala' with a sign. He detailed his daily routine, explaining that he visits the market in the morning to purchase vegetables, sells them throughout the day, and then dedicates time to teaching his child and pursuing his own studies. Currently pursuing a B.Lib (Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences) from Lovely Professional University, Sandeep Singh expressed his aspirations to persist in teaching children and eventually establish his coaching center, aiming to fulfill his dreams without relying on governmental support. He remains undeterred by the lack of a permanent job at the university and remains resolute in pursuing his passion for teaching.
