A congressman of Indian descent ranks among the top 50 influential Chicagoans

'Chicago Magazine' has recognized Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi as one of the 50 most influential figures in Chicago, according to him the 24th position on their esteemed "heavy hitters" roster.

This noteworthy acknowledgment establishes Raja Krishnamoorthi as the highest-ranked individual of South Asian heritage on the prestigious list.

At the helm of the list are Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, marking a significant achievement for Krishnamoorthi.

Hailing from New Delhi with roots tracing back to Tamil Nadu, Krishnamoorthi was nurtured in the heart of Illinois.

Now aged 50, Krishnamoorthi commenced his tenure in Congress in 2016, and he presently serves his fourth term representing Illinois' 8th District. This district encompasses the west and northwest suburbs of Chicago along with the city's 41st ward.

Highlighting his impactful contributions, the magazine noted Krishnamoorthi's leadership as the former chairman of a House Oversight subcommittee, where he delved into diverse matters ranging from investigations into the Washington Commanders to addressing the baby formula shortage. Additionally, the magazine underscored his formidable campaign fund, which stands at a staggering $14.4 million, surpassing the coffers of any other congressional representative from Illinois by a significant margin and ranking as the third-highest total nationwide.

Furthermore, the publication hinted at Krishnamoorthi's strategic move, as he is reportedly accumulating campaign resources in anticipation of a potential Senate bid in 2026, contingent upon the retirement of incumbent Senator Dick Durbin.

Recognized as a significant political force nationally, Krishnamoorthi's influence extends beyond Illinois, as noted by a prominent political consultant.

Described as the preeminent South Asian figure in the Greater Chicago Area, Krishnamoorthi's aspirations for the US Senate in 2026 add a compelling dimension to his already illustrious career trajectory.

In a demonstration of his commitment to advancing Democratic causes, Krishnamoorthi contributed a substantial sum of $460,000 to Democratic candidates and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2022, solidifying his dedication to shaping the political landscape.
