Champai Soren, a minister in Jharkhand, who has asserted his claim to form the government following the arrest of Hemant Soren, engaged in discussions with Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday. Accompanied by prominent figures including Congress legislative party leader Alamgir Alam, RJD MLA Satyanand Bhokta, CPI (ML) L legislator Vinod Singh, and lawmaker Pradeep Yadav, Champai Soren conveyed his confidence in securing the majority necessary for government formation and expressed anticipation for the Governor's imminent decision.
Before Champai Soren's audience with the Governor, the ruling coalition comprising the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress, and Rashtriya Lok Dal disseminated a video featuring the endorsement of 43 Opposition MLAs in favor of Champai Soren's leadership.
Nevertheless, following an inconclusive meeting with the Governor, 39 coalition MLAs, including Basant Soren, the brother of Hemant Soren and an MLA, made arrangements to travel to Hyderabad. However, adverse weather conditions and poor visibility prevented the flight from taking off.
Reflecting on his interaction with the Governor, Champai Soren remarked, "It has been 22 hours since we declared our majority for government formation. The Governor has assured us that a decision will be made promptly."
Meanwhile, JMM MP Mahua Maji expressed skepticism over the delay, noting that in Bihar, the oath-taking ceremony occurred within five hours, thereby raising concerns about the intentions behind the delay.
In the wake of Hemant Soren's resignation from the chief ministerial post on Wednesday night due to his entanglement in a money laundering case and subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate, Champai Soren assumed leadership of the JMM legislative party.
