US President Joe Biden stepped forward to defend Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley against personal criticisms leveled by former President Donald Trump regarding the absence of her husband from the campaign trail. Demonstrating support for the former South Carolina Governor, President Biden highlighted that "Major Haley is abroad, serving his country right now."
In a statement shared on X, the President emphasized, "The reason is that Major Haley is abroad, serving his country right now. We understand that he (Trump) holds our troops in low regard, but this individual wouldn’t recognize service to his country even if it were glaringly evident."
During a campaign event in South Carolina, Trump questioned on Saturday, "What happened to her (Haley) husband?" He further remarked, "Where is he? He’s gone. He knew. He knew."
Responding to these remarks, Haley rebuked her former superior, urging him to engage in direct discourse and confront her directly if he had any grievances. She asserted, "Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about... Donald, if you have something to say, don’t say it behind my back. Get on a debate stage and say it to my face."
Encouraging her supporters to choose a President who values and supports the armed forces, Haley underscored the significance of the ongoing election as a battle for the nation's essence.
Haley stands as Trump's sole remaining contender for the Republican presidential nomination. Both candidates have been active in South Carolina in recent days, engaging in verbal sparring as they approach the Republican primary scheduled for February 24.
