During her presentation of the Union Budget 2024 in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman elaborated on the rooftop solarisation initiative, aligning it with the overarching vision set forth by Prime Minister Modi.
She underscored the significance of this program, emphasizing its alignment with the Prime Minister's vision, particularly referencing the auspicious occasion of the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya. Sitharaman outlined the objectives of the rooftop solarisation program, indicating that it aims to empower one crore households to access up to 300 units of complimentary electricity every month.
This initiative, she emphasized, resonates with the Prime Minister's sentiments expressed upon his return from Ayodhya, where he spoke about the universal spiritual energy derived from Lord Shri Ram. PM Modi had earlier announced the inception of the 'Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana', intended to facilitate rooftop solar installations on a massive scale.
Sitharaman further expounded on the potential benefits of the scheme during her budgetary address, elucidating how households stand to save up to ₹18,000 annually through free solar energy utilization, in addition to the possibility of selling surplus energy back to distribution companies. Moreover, she highlighted the multifaceted advantages of the program, emphasizing its potential to spur entrepreneurial ventures and generate employment opportunities across the nation.
