Day 2 box office receipts for "Shaitaan," starring Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan, are Rs 33 crore

The supernatural thriller film 'Shaitaan', featuring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, and Jyothika, encountered a mixed reception upon its release. Despite varied reviews, the movie managed to garner significant attention, amassing a commendable box office collection of Rs 14.75 crore on its opening day. Demonstrating a notable surge in audience interest, the film witnessed a respectable increase in earnings on its first Saturday.

Early estimates for Day 2 indicate that 'Shaitaan' raked in Rs 18.75 crore, thereby elevating its cumulative earnings to Rs 33.50 crore. Across theaters in the Hindi belt, the film maintained an average occupancy rate of 33.65 percent. The extent of its success over the weekend remains to be seen, awaiting the final figures.

Based on the Gujarati film 'Vash', 'Shaitaan' underwent scrutiny from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before its release, ultimately securing a U/A rating with minor alterations. Notably, the trailer hinted at themes revolving around black magic, prompting the inclusion of a disclaimer disavowing any promotion of such practices. Additionally, the CBFC requested the substitution of an offensive term with a more innocuous alternative.

Furthermore, the censors recommended toning down a scene featuring blood and advocated for the incorporation of a message promoting responsible drinking, leading to a final runtime of 132 minutes for the film.

Jointly presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, 'Shaitaan' boasts a production team consisting of Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the film premiered in cinemas on March 8, 2024.
