Investigating the Congress leader's post criticizing Kangana Ranaut is mandated by Delhi Lt Governor

A contentious statement surfaced on various social media platforms purportedly originating from the online accounts associated with Supriya Shrinate, targeting Kangana Ranaut, the Bollywood figure currently fielded by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its candidate for the Lok Sabha seat in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena took action on Thursday, directing the Police Commissioner to launch an investigation into a disparaging post that emerged from the social media handle of Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, targeting the actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut.

This directive came following a complaint filed by Bansuri Swaraj, a leader of the BJP and its Lok Sabha nominee from Delhi, urging the Lieutenant Governor to order an inquiry and the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Shrinate.

It was alleged that Shrinate disavowed any connection to the contentious remarks, asserting that they were posted by an unauthorized individual with access to her social media accounts.

In response, Saxena forwarded the complaint to the Police Commissioner, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investigation and, if warranted, legal action.

Furthermore, the Lieutenant Governor instructed the police to delve into the origins of the social media post, including identifying the individual responsible and determining which mobile device was employed for its dissemination.

Saxena advised scrutinizing Shrinate's assertions, wherein she denied authorship of the post, instead attributing it to unnamed individuals purportedly with access to her social media profile.

The inquiry also aims to uncover the identity of the person who removed the post approximately two hours after its initial appearance, as well as the means by which it was deleted.
