31-year-old Thai model's body discovered in Bahrain morgue after she was missing for a year

The discovery of the body of Kaikan Kaennakam, a 31-year-old Thai model who had been missing in Bahrain since April 2023, has left her family devastated and demanding answers. Kaikan, who had relocated to Bahrain after her work commitments as a model decreased, was found in a morgue, prompting suspicions of foul play from her family.

Kaikan had been in regular contact with her family in northeast Thailand through social media, where she informed them about her life in Bahrain and her relationship with a Bahraini boyfriend. However, their concerns grew when Kaikan abruptly stopped posting on social media and became unreachable by phone in April 2023.

Despite efforts by her family and the Thai embassy in Bahrain to locate her, Kaikan remained missing until the embassy informed her family on April 18 that the body of an unidentified Southeast Asian female, later identified as Kaikan, had been kept in a morgue since last year.

The cause of Kaikan's death was reported as 'acute lung and heart failure due to alcohol poisoning,' but her family has raised doubts about this explanation. They noted that Kaikan's body showed signs of bruising, leading them to suspect foul play. Furthermore, the family expressed financial concerns about repatriating Kaikan's body to Thailand, highlighting the challenges they face without travel insurance.

In an emotional online post, Kaikan's sister recounted her sister's life in Bahrain and her relationship with an Arab boyfriend. She expressed frustration over the lack of communication with Kaikan and called for a reopening of the case and a reexamination of Kaikan's cause of death through a new autopsy.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Kaikan's death have raised questions about the safety and well-being of individuals living and working abroad, particularly in countries where they may face language barriers and limited support networks. Kaikan's family's quest for justice and closure underscores the importance of thorough investigations and transparency in cases of missing persons and suspicious deaths, ensuring that families receive the answers and support they need during times of grief and uncertainty.
