6 injured, 2 dead in shooting during block party in Memphis



A block party in Memphis, Tennessee, turned tragic on Saturday when a shooting incident left two people dead and six others injured, according to the Memphis Police Department.

The incident occurred at the 2400 Block of Carnes Avenue at around 7:19 pm local time. Initially, it was reported that 16 victims were affected, but subsequent investigation revealed that there were eight total victims, with two fatalities at the scene. The police clarified that some victims were reported multiple times, leading to the discrepancy in the initial count.

Of the six injured individuals, one is in critical condition. Videos circulating on social media captured the chaos as gunshots rang out, prompting people to flee for safety. One video showed a black car driving in circles while shots were fired in the background.

Memphis Police swiftly responded to the scene, cordoning off the area as they conducted their investigation. According to local news outlet FOX13 Memphis, the block party took place without a permit and attracted a crowd of approximately 200 to 300 people. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
