After a "drunk" motorist rams a car into a Michigan birthday party, two children are killed

An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother tragically lost their lives, and a dozen others sustained injuries when a car, allegedly driven by a 66-year-old intoxicated woman, crashed into a child's birthday celebration at a boat club in Michigan, USA. The devastating incident occurred around 3 pm at the Swan Boat Club, located approximately 48.2 kilometers south of Detroit.

Witnesses described the horrifying moment when the vehicle, traveling at high speed, plowed into the gathering, leaving behind clouds of dust. The siblings succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while several others were rushed to nearby hospitals with severe injuries, including three children and six adults with life-threatening conditions.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough revealed that the driver was taken into custody and is being held at the Monro County Jail, although her identity was not disclosed. Authorities suspect that she may have been at a nearby tavern prior to the accident and have closed the establishment as part of their investigation.

The crash scene was described as chaotic by first responders, with emotions running high among those directly involved and witnesses to the tragic event. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, with helicopters and ambulances transporting the injured to hospitals, while others received initial medical aid on-site or were transported by private vehicles.

In response to the incident, the Swan Boat Club issued a statement on Facebook, urging the public to avoid the area to facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles. The club announced its closure until further notice and requested thoughts and prayers for all those affected by the tragedy.
