Elon Musk cancels his trip to India, citing his "very heavy" Tesla duties

Elon Musk's highly anticipated two-day visit to India, originally planned for April 21 and 22, has been postponed. The Tesla CEO was expected to announce the company's entry into the Indian market and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit.

In a tweet, Musk cited "very heavy Tesla obligations" as the reason for the delay in his visit to India. He expressed his eagerness to reschedule the visit later this year.

Reportedly, Musk has a crucial conference call scheduled on April 23 in the United States to address questions about Tesla's first-quarter performance.

Last week, Musk had expressed anticipation about meeting PM Modi. His visit was anticipated to include announcements about investment plans, potentially involving $2-3 billion for a factory to manufacture entry-level cars in India. This aligns with the recent government policy aimed at reducing high tariffs on imported cars by encouraging local investment.

Additionally, Musk was expected to unveil plans for introducing Starlink, a satellite network offering high-speed internet connectivity. During his visit, he was also slated to engage with Indian space technology startups, with companies like Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, Piersight, and Digantara reportedly invited for discussions with the SpaceX CEO in New Delhi.

PM Modi has previously met Elon Musk on two occasions, including during a visit to a Tesla plant in 2015 and during Modi's state visit to the US in 2023. In a recent interview, PM Modi emphasized that Musk is not just a supporter of him personally but of India as a whole.
