'International numbers' threaten the judge who ordered the Gyanvapi survey

Additional Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, known for ordering a videographic survey of Varanasi's Gyanvapi Mosque complex in 2022, has reported receiving "malicious calls" and "death threats from international numbers." He lodged a complaint with the Bareilly Superintendent of Police after receiving calls from international numbers on April 15 and subsequent days, wherein he was threatened with harm. Justice Diwakar, recently transferred to Bareilly, had also previously highlighted threats against him and his family.

In addition to the threats related to the Gyanvapi Mosque survey, Justice Diwakar has initiated suo motu action in the 2018 Bareilly riots case upon his transfer. He ordered Maulana Tauqeer Raza to stand trial for his alleged role as the mastermind in these riots, which caused extensive property damage and necessitated a 27-day curfew in Bareilly.

Following his actions regarding the Gyanvapi Mosque, the Allahabad High Court initially granted Y-category security for Justice Diwakar and his family, but this was later downgraded to X-category. Currently, he is provided security by two personnel, though one of his colleagues expressed concern that neither is armed, indicating the insufficiency of their protection.
