Approximately 43% of the candidates hail from the general category, 27% belong to the OBC category, 17% represent the SC category, 10% come from the ST category, and 2% are from minority communities. While this demonstrates a commitment to diversity, there is still a need for improvement, particularly in ensuring adequate representation of STs and minorities.
On the other hand, the Congress party has shown a stronger record in the representation of STs and minorities. Of the candidates announced, 36% are from the general category, 25% are OBC candidates, 16% are SC candidates, 14% are ST candidates, and 9% are from minority communities. However, like the BJP, the Congress also faces challenges in achieving equitable opportunities for all marginalized communities.
Overall, both parties have made efforts to address the representation of marginalized communities in their candidate selection processes. However, there is still room for improvement, and ongoing efforts are needed to ensure that all sections of society are adequately represented in the political arena.
