The tragic incident in Salem, Tamil Nadu, claimed the lives of at least five passengers and left 45 others injured when a private bus lost control and plunged into a gorge. The bus was traveling from Yercaud to Salem when it veered off course near the 13th hairpin bend, leading to the fatal accident.
Following the crash, rescue teams, aided by locals, swiftly responded to the scene and transported the injured to Salem Government Hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite their efforts, four individuals tragically succumbed to their injuries.
Salem Superintendent of Police Arun Kabilan and Salem MLA R Rajendran were among those present at the accident site, overseeing the rescue efforts and providing support to the affected individuals and their families.
Expressing his condolences, Union Minister of State L Murugan took to social media to extend sympathies to the grieving families. He also called upon the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that adequate compensation is provided to both the victims and those who sustained injuries in this heartbreaking incident.
