In a tragic accident, two engineering students were killed in Pune, Maharashtra, after being struck by a truck on Monday night. The incident occurred at around 10:30 pm in the Chandan Nagar area on the Pune-Ahmednagar road.
The victims, who were in their early 20s and attended an engineering college in Pune, were traveling to the Pune railway station. Two of the students were planning to return to their hometown, Latur.
The truck hit the motorbike from behind, resulting in the death of one student at the scene. The other student succumbed to injuries later at a hospital, as confirmed by Inspector Anand Khobre from Vimaltal police station.
Following the collision, the truck driver attempted to flee but was apprehended by police and local residents approximately 300 meters from the site of the accident. The driver has been arrested and charged under Indian Penal Code section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) along with other relevant sections.
This incident follows another fatal accident in Pune on May 19, where a Porsche car driven by a 17-year-old allegedly struck a motorbike in Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals.
The investigation into the recent incident is ongoing as authorities seek to determine the full details and hold the responsible parties accountable.
