In a significant and controversial development, three police officers in Kerala, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were suspended after they were discovered feasting at the residence of a notorious criminal during a surprise raid. The incident involved MG Sabu, the DSP of the Alappuzha Crime Branch, who reportedly hid in the bathroom upon noticing the police team arriving at the house.
The incident unfolded during a raid conducted by the Angamaly police at Thammanan Faisal's residence on Monday evening. This raid was part of 'Operation AAG (Action Against Goons)', an extensive state-wide operation aimed at cracking down on criminal gangs.
The police had received a tip-off that four individuals had arrived at Faisal's house in a private car. However, they were taken aback to find these four individuals, who were police officers, partaking in a feast organized by the goon.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who also serves as the Home Minister, promptly ordered the suspension of the three officers involved. The suspended officers included DSP MG Sabu of the Alappuzha Crime Branch and two other officers. One of the officers, from the Vigilance Department, has not yet been suspended due to pending procedural formalities.
The Aluva Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) has been directed to submit a detailed report on the incident. The statements of the involved officers were recorded at the police station following the raid.
This incident highlights issues of corruption and collusion within the police force and underscores the challenges faced in the crackdown on criminal activities in the state. The state government’s swift action reflects a commitment to addressing such issues and maintaining the integrity of the law enforcement agencies.
