Twist in JioHotstar drama: Dubai twins allege they bought domain from developer

The JioHotstar.com domain controversy has taken an unexpected twist, as it has been reported that the domain, originally purchased by a Delhi-based app developer, has now been sold to two young siblings from Dubai—Jainam and Jivika. This development comes in the wake of Reliance Industries’ annoyance over the acquisition of the domain, particularly as it had been considered a logical choice for their newly merged streaming platform, combining JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.

The saga began when the anonymous developer acquired the JioHotstar domain in 2023, anticipating the merger of the two platforms. Following the acquisition, the developer claimed he was contacted by a Reliance executive who expressed interest in the domain. However, when he asked for ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000) for its sale, Reliance reportedly denied the payment and considered legal action against him for trademark infringement.

On Saturday, the website JioHotstar.com was updated with a new landing page featuring Jainam and Jivika. According to their website, jainamjivikafuntime.com, Jainam is 13 years old, and his sister is 10. They claim to have purchased the domain to support the Delhi developer, expressing a commitment to spreading kindness and positivity through their journey.

In a message on their site, Jainam and Jivika elaborated on their mission, stating:

"Hello! We are Jainam and Jivika – siblings from Dubai, UAE, on a mission to make a difference. Even though we’re just kids, we believe that age is only a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent journey began during our summer holidays when we left our home in Dubai for 50 unforgettable days in India. We had a purpose: to connect with children from various backgrounds, share our love for learning, teach skills for studying and setting goals, and inspire them to dream big."

The siblings went on to describe their experiences during their trip to India, where they taught children not only academic skills but also the importance of setting ambitious goals. Their journey was filled with meaningful interactions and new friendships, culminating in the decision to use part of the donations they received to purchase the domain from the Delhi developer, emphasizing their desire to support him.

In addition to their charitable efforts, Jainam and Jivika run a YouTube channel focused on DIY projects related to toys and games. They are also associated with a registered NGO, the Jainam Jivika Foundation, which is directed by Kantilal Shankarlal Jain and Shobha Kantilal Jain.

As of now, Reliance Industries has not issued a public statement regarding the new ownership of JioHotstar.com or the implications of this latest development in the ongoing domain dispute. This turn of events has not only drawn attention to the legal and trademark issues surrounding the domain but also highlighted the siblings' unique initiative and their commitment to philanthropy at a young age.
