Jesse Eisenberg, a social network celebrity, claims that Mark Zuckerberg is obsessed with power

Jesse Eisenberg, best known for his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 film The Social Network, has recently spoken out against the Facebook co-founder, expressing his desire to distance himself from the tech billionaire. In a recent interview, the actor criticized Zuckerberg's actions, calling them "problematic" and highlighting his shift toward political alliances that align with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Eisenberg, who once immersed himself in Zuckerberg’s mindset for his Oscar-nominated performance, now feels uneasy about being associated with him.

Reflecting on his past role, Eisenberg explained that, as an actor, his job was to empathize with the characters and justify their actions. At the time, he saw Zuckerberg as someone with a brilliant mind who possessed a strong sense of righteousness. However, looking at his trajectory over the past decade and a half, Eisenberg admitted that he now sees Zuckerberg as a figure who has grown increasingly obsessed with power and wealth. He specifically criticized Meta’s removal of fact-checking measures and its perceived role in the spread of misinformation.

Eisenberg acknowledged that while his performance in The Social Network helped solidify his Hollywood career, he does not want to be forever linked to Zuckerberg, especially given the controversies surrounding him. He made it clear that his opinions on the matter come more from a place of personal concern rather than from any lingering connection to the role.

Beyond his remarks on Zuckerberg, Eisenberg is currently focused on his latest project, A Real Pain, a film he wrote, directed, and stars in alongside Succession actor Kieran Culkin. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim, earning praise for its sharp dialogue and emotional depth. The film follows two estranged cousins who embark on a journey through Poland to honor their late grandmother, confronting their personal and familial struggles along the way. Critics have lauded Eisenberg’s ability to balance humor with heartfelt moments, making the film a standout in his directorial career.

A Real Pain has also generated buzz in awards circles, receiving two Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Kieran Culkin) and Best Original Screenplay (Jesse Eisenberg). The film has resonated strongly with audiences, with many appreciating its exploration of grief, heritage, and the complexities of family relationships. As Eisenberg transitions more into writing and directing, his latest project further cements his reputation as a multifaceted storyteller capable of crafting both thought-provoking and emotionally engaging narratives.
