At least two Indian Army soldiers, including a captain, lost their lives, and another was injured in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector on Tuesday. The explosion occurred at approximately 3:30 pm while army personnel conducted a routine patrolling operation in the Laleali area.
Following the blast, all three injured soldiers were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, two of them succumbed to their injuries, while the third soldier, who was airlifted to an army hospital, is now reported to be out of danger.
Confirming the tragic incident, the Jammu-based White Knight Corps unit of the Indian Army released a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Suspected Improvised Explosive Device blast reported in #Laleali in #Akhnoor Sector during a fence patrol resulting in two fatalities. Own troops are dominating the area and search #operations are underway. The White Knight Corps salutes and pays tribute to the supreme sacrifice of two gallant soldiers.”
In response, the Indian Army has intensified security measures in the region, with additional troops mobilized to conduct a large-scale search operation along the LoC to rule out the presence of further explosives or infiltration attempts. The security situation remains tense, as the forces continue to investigate the nature of the explosion and potential sources of the IED.
This incident adds to the growing security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir, where sporadic incidents involving explosives and cross-border threats persist. The Indian Army remains on high alert to prevent any further threats along the LoC.
