Another harrowing video from the day of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has surfaced online, offering chilling visuals of the moment when terrorists seized control of Baisaran Valley — a popular tourist destination.
In the latest clip, terrified civilians — including women, children, and elderly tourists — can be seen sitting helplessly on the ground, huddled together in fear. The lush green meadows of Baisaran, often called "Mini Switzerland" for their breathtaking beauty, transformed into a grim scene of terror as sporadic gunshots rang out in the background, breaking the usual serenity. The tension and dread are palpable in the footage, as people try to remain still and silent, not knowing if they will survive.
This new video adds to the series of disturbing visuals that emerged in the aftermath of the attack. Earlier clips had shown complete chaos: tourists screaming, running for cover, and crying for help as gunfire echoed across the valley. Some videos captured heart-wrenching moments where families were separated while fleeing, and others showed visitors who had moments earlier been recording their joyous moments amid the picturesque landscape suddenly dropping their phones as gunfire erupted.
Another particularly moving video showed a local shawl seller bravely rushing to aid an injured tourist, physically carrying the victim through rugged terrain in a desperate attempt to find safety and medical help. His courage and humanity in the face of terror have been widely praised across social media.
The Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 civilians — mostly tourists — were killed, stands as one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in Kashmir in recent years. Initial investigations revealed that the attackers deliberately targeted victims based on their religion after singling them out. The Resistance Front (TRF), widely believed to be a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the bloodbath.
The attack has triggered a wave of anger, grief, and demands for justice across India and among Indian communities worldwide. In response, New Delhi has launched a series of strong diplomatic and strategic measures aimed at isolating Pakistan internationally and sending a clear signal of zero tolerance for cross-border terrorism.
Key actions taken by India include:
-
Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), effectively freezing one of the few cooperative frameworks that had survived decades of hostility.
-
The immediate expulsion of Pakistani diplomats significantly downgrades the already fragile diplomatic relationship.
-
Closure of the Attari-Wagah border crossing, shutting down one of the main land routes between the two nations.
-
Cancellation of all valid visas issued to Pakistani nationals and setting a strict deadline for Pakistani citizens residing in India to leave.
-
Mobilisation of global Indian communities, who have staged protests outside Pakistani embassies and consulates in major cities like London, Washington, New York, Sydney, and Toronto.
Meanwhile, Indian intelligence and military agencies remain on high alert. Intelligence reports indicate that Pakistan has started vacating several terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and is moving militants into army-controlled bunkers, fearing a retaliatory strike from India.
The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed a strong response not only against the perpetrators but also against those who enable and harbour them. Speaking publicly, PM Modi said, "Those who orchestrated and those who hid behind will face an unimaginable punishment. The time has come to raze the last remnants of the terror infrastructure. The resolve of 140 crore Indians will break the back of terror and its masters."
With tensions soaring and military activity increasing along the Line of Control (LoC), the situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours remains extremely fragile.
