Diljit Dosanjh made a powerful statement at the Met Gala 2025, blending regal Indian heritage with high fashion in a debut that earned both admiration and intrigue. Clad in a Maharaja Bhupinder Singh-inspired outfit designed by Prabal Gurung, Diljit’s ensemble featured a flowing ivory kurta-tehmat set, a traditional Sikh turban, a cape with Gurumukhi script, and a ceremonial sword — all of which reflected a deep connection to his Punjabi and Sikh identity.
Although the look was nearly complete, one ambitious element was missing — the original Patiala necklace, a staggering $2.5 billion Cartier creation once worn by the Maharaja himself. Despite the stylist Abhilasha Devnani’s efforts, Cartier declined the request to loan the necklace, which remains sealed in a museum. Instead, Indian jeweller Golecha recreated complementary pieces, including a turban brooch, inspired by the royal family’s collection.
Speaking to The New York Times, Diljit emphasized the meaning behind his fashion choices: “It’s about carrying your identity with pride.” His attire, steeped in symbolism and elegance, resonated with the Met Gala 2025’s theme — “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” — by celebrating cultural identity through craftsmanship and heritage.
In addition to Diljit, the event featured a notable Indian contingent. Shah Rukh Khan made his long-anticipated debut, while global fashion icons like Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, and Prabal Gurung brought Indian couture to the global spotlight.
