By 2026, AI will enable a single person to manage a billion-dollar business, according to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei

This vision of a billion-dollar business run by a single person powered by AI is both thrilling and transformative. Dario Amodei’s prediction—that by 2026, a solo founder leveraging advanced AI assistants could build a unicorn—highlights how rapidly AI is reshaping the entrepreneurial landscape.

The key enablers here are AI’s ability to automate and enhance core business functions that traditionally required teams: coding, data analysis, customer support, marketing, billing, even content moderation. With tools like Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4, which can handle complex, independent coding tasks, and Claude Sonnet 4, designed for fast and efficient operations accessible even to free-tier users, the barriers to launching and scaling tech ventures are falling fast.

Proprietary trading and developer tools stand out as the most plausible industries for this shift. Proprietary trading firms rely on quick data-driven decisions rather than large client service teams—perfect for AI-powered automation. Developer tools, too, are a natural fit, since AI can generate and maintain code, and manage related workflows.

Mike Krieger’s example of Instagram—built by 13 people before hitting a billion-dollar exit—puts the scale of this shift in perspective. AI could reduce that team size to just one by automating the heavy lifting.

Of course, hurdles remain: regulatory frameworks need to catch up, legal questions about accountability and trust will grow more complex, and some industries will resist AI disruption. Yet the odds Amodei gives—70 to 80% that this solo-unicorn future will arrive soon—reflect the pace of AI innovation and adoption.

If this vision comes to pass, it could upend our understanding of entrepreneurship, democratizing access to business creation at a scale previously unimaginable. It’s a future where the blend of human ingenuity and AI efficiency unleashes creativity and value on an entirely new level—and where one person, with the right AI assistant, could literally run the next big company.
